Whether "management" knows it or not, I think a lot of SWEs will claim a more specific domain knowledge. So while, for the most part, they share a core fundamental set of skills around programming and technical architecture, they are usually "T-Shaped" in that they do have a specialty; Back-End Engineers, Front-End Engineers, Gameplay Engineers, Data Engineers, Infrastructure Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers, etc.
