I'll bet this article got all those thirsty people slapping "AI" on their LinkedIn profiles excited. No technical experience but I could work in AI!? Awesome!

That said, I agree that roles should be better differentiated within data science or machine learning organizations and from what I've seen, most are evolving to be just that.

I might go as far to say that there are a bunch of qualified data scientists who would fit great in this role - they are more product focused, people facing, and care less about furthering their careers technically.

I think that is where this starts - stop calling everyone a DS on these monolithic teams and start differentiating responsibilities and making it key. That's easier for most DS teams to digest and sure beats rolling a die on a random product owner that may or may not know anything about AI (posting gifs of "AI" on LinkedIn every day doesn't necessarily count).
